What Is a Franchise ?
A franchise is a type of business model in which an individual (the franchisee) is granted the rights to operate a business using the trademark, products, and operating systems of an existing business (the franchisor). The franchisee typically pays the franchisor an initial fee and ongoing royalties for the right to use the franchisor’s intellectual property, as well as for training, support, and other services. The franchisor typically provides the franchisee with a proven business model, established customer base, and established brand recognition. Some examples of popular franchises include McDonald’s, Subway, and 7-Eleven.
